The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman harboring multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers where their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
