Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
