Detonations and Low-Flying Jets Reported in Venezuela's Capital City Caracas City

Accounts circulated of several detonations and the sound of low-altitude aircraft in Caracas in the pre-dawn hours of the weekend. This event has led to claims from the Venezuelan authorities and requests for global scrutiny.

Venezuela Condemns US of Military Action

Venezuela's socialist regime has condemned the United States of an act of "foreign aggression," stating that ex- President Donald Trump allegedly directed military strikes against the South American nation. In an formal statement, the authorities confirmed that attacks had targeted Caracas and several other states: Miranda state, La Guaira, and Aragua state.

"Our primary goal of these strikes is to seize control of Venezuela's strategic resources, in particular its oil and minerals," Venezuela asserted.

The government urged the world to censure the strikes, which it termed a "clear infringement of international law" that endangered numerous of lives in danger.

Accounts of Blasts and Military Bases Hit

Residents reported experiencing approximately multiple powerful blasts around the middle of the night local time. Citizens in several districts allegedly rushed into the open.

"The earth trembled. It was frightening. We experienced explosions and aircraft in the area," stated one local.

Black smoke was seen billowing from major military installations in the city: the La Carlota airbase military airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna military base, where president Maduro is believed to reside.

International Condemnation

The leader of neighboring Colombia, Gustavo Petro, claimed on X that "Currently they are striking Caracas... attacking it with projectiles." He called for an immediate emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.

Colombia, which recently joined the Security Council, stated it would activate defense protocols at its shared border with its neighbor.

Background

The alleged attacks are preceded by a months-long pressure campaign by the Trump administration against the Venezuelan administration. Beginning in August, there has been a significant American military buildup off Venezuela's Caribbean coast and a series of airstrikes on ships accused of narco-trafficking.

The government has declared "the implementation of external threat" and directed all national defence plans to be initiated. It has also summoned its citizens to take to the streets and "repudiate this imperialist attack."

The White House and the Pentagon did not publicly responded to inquiries for clarification regarding the reports.
